Arts. Crafts. Not arts and crafts.

Market Day is a casual monthly market for art, vintage, found items, homemade and handmade goods. Artists are encouraged to look beyond what they traditionally retail and bring a fun and inexpensive mix of items. Think arts festival meets bohemian garage sale. It is always free-to-attend. Six of our seven dates overlap with the nearby Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market.

Market Day is a seasonal event and runs the last Saturday of every month, May through October. We also have a special Black Friday sale the day after Thanksgiving.

We’re passionate about people who MAKE things and CURATE really awesome collections. We aren’t picky about WHAT people make – we have clay pieces, and cupcakes, and screenprinted bags, and upcycled jewelry, and vintages dresses and all sorts of other really awesome stuff – just so long as what they bring to Market Day is original, creative, and not overly commercial in nature.

Background

2010 marks the second season of Market Day. It was originally held in an old warehouse in the East Village. Now it is held in an old warehouse on SW 5th right across from the Whiteline Lofts and spitting distance from the Farmers’ Market. Market Day was started with the vision of making buying local and buying creative a regular routine for people. We also wanted to create an event that would showcase the talents of all the awesome people we knew were secretly making things in Central Iowa but didn’t have an outlet that quite matched their style.

Market Day has been featured in The Des Moines Register, Datebook, Juice, KCCI, ABC5, and CNN Money.
